Miracle Island Services
On the Web Currently, the Miracle Island web site serves as a source of information, support and comfort. It is our hope that this site is a place where those needing help and those wanting to provide it can find each other. Miracle Island will accomplish this by creating Hope Pages to tell each person's story. Hope pages can provide both a source of inspiration to others as well as a memorial to those who did not survive their trauma.
On the Land
Although Miracle Island is currently only a destination for the web traveler, we soon hope to expand our vision into reality. Originally, a four acre peninsula in Michigan had been selected for the Miracle Island facility. Although this site was beautiful, the rural location would make it difficult to find qualified staff persons. Therefore, it was decided that Miracle Island should be located near or on a university or college campus, preferably one with medical facility nearby. This serves two wonderful purposes: 1) it provides the Miracle Island facility with large pool of eager, committed staff and volunteer workers, and 2) students can benefit from Miracle Island as a service-learning experience to complement their field of study. We strongly believe a university or college campus and a Miracle Island facility is a match made in heaven. We believe our facility and program are unique, utilizing treatment and rehabilitation services that heal not only the body, but also the mind and spirit in an environment of compassion, love and hope.
Because the Miracle Island facility is intended to be a private, nonprofit organization, our staff is motivated by the welfare of our residents, and not the corporate "bottom line." Many of our staff members have witnessed a family member or friend experience a traumatic brain injury or neurological disease. It is in fact such an experience that motivated John Fosselman to establish Miracle Island.
Fees for services will be based on a person's ability to pay, making Miracle Island a potential home for anyone who could benefit from the Miracle Island healing milieu.
